Establishments in Liechtenstein
The Anstalt is a Liechtenstein legal form with no equivalent elsewhere in European company law. It has no shareholders, but a holder of founder's rights.
The Anstalt, or establishment, is a Liechtenstein peculiarity with no counterpart in most legal systems. It is an endowed body of assets with its own legal personality under Art. 534 ff. PGR, a minimum capital of CHF 30,000, and a board of directors at its head. Only the establishment's own assets are liable.
Unlike an Aktiengesellschaft it has no shareholders. Above it sits the founder's right, which may be held by a person, another establishment or a foundation — and which is not entered in the commercial register. What is public is the name, seat, purpose, capital and the board with its signing authority.
An establishment may trade commercially or may do nothing but hold assets; which of the two applies follows from its registered purpose. Who stands behind it economically is a question for the register of beneficial owners at the Office of Justice, not for the commercial register — and that register is not generally public.

Common questions
What is the difference between an Anstalt and a foundation?
Both are endowed bodies of assets. A foundation serves the purpose fixed in its deed and has no holder; an establishment has a founder's right that can be transferred, and it may also trade commercially.
Does an establishment have shareholders?
No. In place of shares there is the founder's right. It is not entered in the commercial register, so the holder does not appear on a register extract.
What is the minimum capital of an establishment?
CHF 30,000, under Art. 534 ff. PGR.
Can I see who beneficially owns an establishment?
Not here, and not in the commercial register. Beneficial owners are recorded separately by the Office of Justice in a register that carries no general right of inspection.
