What it is

The Societas Europaea is a European Union legal form available in Liechtenstein through the EEA Agreement. It allows a company to move its seat within the EEA without dissolving and re-incorporating.

Liechtenstein is an EEA member, not an EU member. That is not a formality: EU instruments apply here only so far as they have been taken into the EEA Agreement — and the VAT validation system VIES, for one, does not cover Liechtenstein numbers.
