FL number (register number)

Every entity in the commercial register receives a number of the form FL-0002.625.901-4. It survives changes of name, seat and legal form, which makes it the most reliable way to identify an entity — a company name is not.

The final digit after the hyphen is a check digit. In practice it is often dropped; even official notices routinely cite a company without it. The search on this site therefore accepts both spellings, with and without the check digit, with and without the dots.
